The Key Word is “Condition”…

We usually assimilate targets with numbers – the bullseye on a dartboard has a value of 50; in business our goals nearly always involve numbers, that makes them measurable.  But, is our staff motivated by numbers?  Research would suggest not.

So, we have a bit of a disconnection.  We want numbers but numbers don’t motivate those whose day to day actions will achieve them!

Mike Rother says, “We understand the Current Condition enough to set a Target Condition.  Further,  perhaps in step 3 of the Improvement KATA we are understanding the Current Condition enough in order to establish motivation to strive for a better state?  That state is your Target Condition.
