Kata Practitioner Day

April 29, 2020
Hosted by: Genentech
South San Francisco, CA

We encourage you to run a Kata Practitioner Day (KPD) in your region, or even within an organization. The purpose of a KPD is to provide a compact, uncomplicated forum for sharing first-hand experiences and lessons learned from real practice of the Improvement Kata and Coaching Kata patterns. A KPD is a forum for practitioners to share their knowledge with anyone who is interested in IK/CK.

You can organize a KPD for a geographic region, an industry segment or even inside a single organization where the IK and CK are being practiced. A KPD is a “local” or “regional” sharing event that’s intended to be low-cost/high-value, not requiring an overnight stay.

All you need for a KPD is one specialist speaker (30-minute presentation), four or more Toyota Kata practitioners to present (20 minutes each), and facilitation of the Kata in the Classroom KiC) exercise.

Organizing your KPD

Organization is decentralized. Each KPD handles its own sponsorship, registration, and other organization. The fee for a KPD generally ranges from $150 per person to free, with the average being about $90. If you have questions about a specific KPD you should contact the local organizers for that event.

Marketing your KPD

KPDs are usually hosted and marketed in collaboration with a local/regional business consortium or chamber, a Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) office, or similar. These organizations are usually happy to have you bring the content while they organize the meeting space and help to publicize the event.

Tell Us About Your KPD!

Lean Frontiers will support you and your efforts in any way we can. Just let us know you’d like to run a KPD and we’re happy to promote your efforts to the Kata Community and/or come alongside you in the planning. Be sure to take photos at your KPD and send them to us.
